A powerful weather system is set to impact Newfoundland, bringing severe conditions across the island starting Sunday night. The western region is under a winter storm warning, with forecasts of 20 to 40 cm of snow and high winds of 80 to 110 km/h, with gusts up to 120 km/h. These conditions, combined with snow, are predicted to cause blizzard-like visibility.
Eastern Newfoundland and the Avalon Peninsula face an orange wind warning, anticipating wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h from Monday afternoon. This region will also see ice pellets and freezing rain. The south coast may experience significant rainfall of 25 to 35 mm, with potential for flooding due to frozen ground.
Southeast Labrador is under a yellow winter storm warning for Monday morning, expecting snow and high winds. A winter storm watch is also in effect for parts of the Trans-Labrador Highway. Authorities are urging travellers to exercise caution and consider postponing or delaying trips.
