Nantucket Faces Coastal Flood Threat This Weekend
1 Feb
Summary
- Coastal flood warning in effect for Nantucket from Sunday morning to Monday afternoon.
- One to two feet of inundation expected in low-lying areas, potentially freezing.
- Several roads near Nantucket Harbor could become impassable due to flooding.

A coastal flood warning has been issued for Nantucket County, valid from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service forecasts one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying coastal areas and tidal waterways. Sub-freezing temperatures are a concern, as they could cause storm surge to freeze, prolonging impacts and delaying drainage after high tide periods.
Several roads near Nantucket Harbor are expected to become impassable due to the predicted water levels, affecting access to ferry terminals. These include Easy Street, South Beach Street, Easton Street, Walsh Street, Willard Street, and Straight Wharf. Residents are advised to take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property and exercise extreme caution if travel is required, avoiding driving through flooded areas of unknown depth.
