Mumbai and its surrounding districts are currently under an orange alert as summer heat intensifies. Maximum temperatures have risen sharply, reaching up to 38-40 degrees Celsius in several parts of the metropolitan region, well above the typical March averages. This elevated alert level signals heatwave-like conditions with potential health risks, especially for those exposed to the sun for extended periods.

Weather officials attribute the sustained heat to dry easterly winds and weak sea breezes that are preventing coastal cooling. Such high temperatures this early in March are considered unusual and align with a broader trend of early heat surges observed across western India. Residents are strongly advised to minimize outdoor activities between noon and early afternoon.

Health experts are reiterating the importance of hydration and avoiding direct sun exposure. High temperatures combined with humidity are increasing heat-index values, making it feel hotter than the official readings. Special precautions are recommended for seniors, children, and outdoor workers, as dehydration can become a serious concern.
