As of August 18, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts and warnings across the country due to the ongoing monsoon season. The agency has declared an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating the potential for heavy rainfall, while a red alert has been issued for the states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, signaling the likelihood of extremely heavy downpours.
According to the IMD's latest weather report, the heavy rain is expected to affect several other states as well, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. The weather agency has specifically warned of "extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places" in these regions on August 18.
In addition to the heavy rainfall, the IMD has also forecasted that minimum temperatures are likely to settle 1 to 2 degrees below normal, ranging from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperatures, on the other hand, are expected to be near normal, in the range of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.
The severe weather conditions have already caused disruptions in the financial capital of Mumbai, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reporting six short circuits, 19 tree or branch falls, and two wall collapse incidents on Sunday. The situation remains critical, and more precipitation is expected in the coming days.
