Melbourne Drenched: Winter's Icy Grip Returns
20 Jun
Summary
- Melbourne experienced its warmest June night on record recently.
- Cold front brings rain and cooler temperatures to the city.
- Snowfall is possible on highest mountain peaks in northeast.

Melbourne is bracing for a return to cold and dreary winter conditions following an unusually warm week. The city experienced its warmest June night on record just days ago, with a minimum temperature of 16.2 degrees recorded. This warm spell has since given way to a cold front that moved across the southeast, bringing widespread rain.
Up to 15 millimetres of rain is forecast for Saturday, with temperatures struggling to reach a high of 14 degrees. While showers are expected to ease from Sunday, a chance of rain remains, with highs around 15 degrees. The work week is predicted to start dry but will see a return of light rain by Tuesday.
In the higher Alpine regions, the recent warmth has significantly reduced snow cover. However, the peaks in the northeast may receive a light dusting of snow in the coming days. A marine wind warning is currently in effect for Victoria's West Coast and Central Coast regions.
