Kolkata's Chill: Night Temps Rise, Day Temps Dip!
13 Jan
Summary
- Kolkata's night temperature rose while day temperature slightly dipped.
- Both maximum and minimum temperatures remained below normal levels.
- A record low for January was observed earlier in the month.

Kolkata's weather continues to be unpredictable, with day temperatures dropping slightly on Tuesday while night temperatures saw an increase. However, the city is still experiencing a chilly atmosphere as both maximum and minimum temperatures remain below normal. The Met office predicts a further dip in night temperatures by Wednesday, anticipating them to hover around 12 degrees Celsius.
Earlier this month, on January 6, Kolkata recorded its lowest minimum temperature in 13 years for January, plummeting to 10.2 degrees Celsius. This was accompanied by the season's lowest maximum temperature of 18 degrees, a significant 6.7 notches below average, driven by strong north-westerly winds and low cloud cover.
Although temperatures began a gradual rise from January 7, the minimum consistently stayed below normal. A brief respite occurred on Sunday when the minimum spiked to 15 degrees, surpassing the normal mark after 17 days. However, in the past two days, temperatures have once again dipped below the usual levels.
