Kolkata Skies Set for Rain After Long Dry Spell
24 Feb
Summary
- Kolkata anticipates light to moderate rain on Tuesday.
- Rain is predicted due to moist southerly winds and a trough.
- Temperatures are expected to remain largely unaffected by the rain.

Kolkata is forecast to receive light to moderate rain on Tuesday, marking a potential end to an extended dry period lasting close to four months. This prediction stems from a combination of weather phenomena. Warm southerly and south-easterly winds are currently drawing moisture from the sea inland.
Furthermore, a trough line extending from Gangetic Bengal to north coastal Andhra is contributing to the increased likelihood of rain. The Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata estimates a 60% chance of precipitation for the city itself. Thunderstorms are also anticipated in the adjacent districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and East and West Midnapore.
Officials have noted that the influx of moist air from the sea is a key factor. Despite the prospect of rainfall, the Met department suggests that the mercury levels are unlikely to be significantly impacted. Monday's temperature was recorded at 31.2°C, slightly above the normal mark, and the minimum temperature had already risen above 20°C.
