Kolkata Braces for Enhanced Rainfall: Tuesday to Thursday Forecast

Kolkata can anticipate increased rainfall between Tuesday and Thursday, as meteorological conditions become more conducive for rain activity in south Bengal districts. Currently, the monsoon trough is positioned over Gangetic West Bengal, complemented by an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Jharkhand and an associated trough extending to the Northwest Bay of Bengal. These systems, which are currently causing downpours in North Bengal, are expected to bring heavier rain to the southern parts of the state.

Alipore observatory registered 32.6 mm of rain between Saturday and Sunday, contributing to a drop in mercury to 29.2 degrees Celsius, 3.6 notches below normal. With partly cloudy skies and expected rain spells, temperatures are likely to remain below normal for the immediate future. This July, Kolkata has seen rain on most days, with day temperatures remaining below normal for 14 of the past 19 days, and the city has already recorded nearly 170 mm of rain in the first 19 days of the month.
