Kolkata Drenched: Monsoon Showers Cool City Temps

Kolkata's weather on Tuesday was characterized by cloudy skies and intermittent light rain, which helped maintain temperatures below average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued light to moderate rain spells for the city over the next two to three days. This is due to the monsoon trough currently situated along South Bengal, accompanied by an upper air trough.

The active monsoon conditions over South Bengal are attributed to the monsoon trough's path, which extends from Sri Ganganagar to the Northwest Bay of Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the West Central Bay of Bengal further contributes to these weather patterns. While South Bengal districts can expect some heavy spells, rainfall activity in North Bengal is gradually decreasing.

On the preceding Monday, heavy rain impacted central and northern parts of Kolkata, with lighter showers in the south. Tuesday saw mostly light rain or drizzle across the city. The combination of cloud cover and rainfall brought the maximum temperature down to 30.1°C, nearly two degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at a normal 26.5°C.
