Kerala Swelters: Heatwave Grips State

Kerala is currently experiencing intense summer heat, with temperatures soaring and ultraviolet levels at their peak. Residents are reporting significant discomfort due to the oppressive humidity and rising heat index values. The urban heat island effect is further amplifying these sweltering conditions across the state.

Temperatures have twice surpassed 40°C in Palakkad last week, and many weather stations, including Punalur and Palakkad, are now dangerously close to heatwave levels. Coastal areas in northern Kerala, such as Kannur and Kozhikode, are also feeling the heat, experiencing sultry weather due to unusually high relative humidity that drives up the perceived temperature. These extreme conditions are forecast to persist through the first week of May.
