Kanpur received significant relief from sultry weather conditions on Sunday evening with widespread light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature recorded at the CSA weather observatory was 34.8 degrees Celsius, a slight increase from the previous day, while the minimum temperature held steady at 26.8 degrees Celsius.
Despite a slight decrease in daytime relative humidity, it remained high at 78 percent, contributing to discomfort. South-easterly winds did little to alleviate the muggy conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that the monsoon is actively present over the region, leading to persistent humidity and rainfall.
Forecasts for the next 24 hours suggest partly to mostly cloudy skies across Kanpur division, with a high probability of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or night. Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 32-33 degrees Celsius, with minimums ranging from 27-28 degrees Celsius. Easterly winds will blow at 8-14 kmph, and relative humidity is likely to remain high, between 80-90 percent.
Weather expert S N Sunil Pandey from CSA University cited increasing atmospheric moisture and new weather systems as causes for the heightened moisture flow. He anticipates continued cloudy conditions in the Kanpur division on August 3rd, with isolated areas possibly experiencing drizzle, light to moderate rainfall, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and lightning. Intermittent sunshine between cloud and rain spells may continue to contribute to humid conditions.
