Kanpur has been under a persistent and heavy spell of rain, causing a significant drop in temperatures. The maximum temperature recorded was 25.2°C, a stark 8.2°C below the normal for this time of year. This continuous rainfall has also led to near-total humidity, with levels reaching 100% and 96% for maximum and minimum relative humidity, respectively.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the Kanpur division, anticipating heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 40 to 60 kmph within the next 24 hours. Weather experts predict that cloud movements over the coming three days could bring more light to heavy showers, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Despite the gloomy forecast, intermittent sunshine is expected on Sunday.
Kanpur Nagar alone recorded 175 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours preceding Saturday. The prolonged wet weather has severely disrupted normal life in the city. Petty vendors, in particular, have borne the brunt of the incessant showers, being forced to stay indoors and unable to sell their goods.
