Kanpur received welcome respite from the heat on Friday as light drizzles swept through the division, accompanied by an overcast sky for the entire day.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius, marking an 8.4-degree drop from the usual for this time of year. The minimum temperature was 18.8 degrees Celsius, which was 4.2 degrees above normal. Relative humidity levels saw a significant increase, reaching 80%.
According to the India Meteorological Department, rainfall was anticipated across many parts of the country, including the Kanpur division. Cloud cover intensified overnight, leading to dense conditions by morning, and some areas even experienced hailstorms.
The IMD predicts a continuation of mild sunshine alongside dense cloud cover in the region. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay below normal, with a possibility of light showers and strong winds.
Weather expert Dr. S. Sunil Pandey from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology indicated that light drizzles might continue until noon. He also noted that northwesterly winds could gain speed, ranging from 1 to 6 kmph in the afternoon.
Dr. Pandey advised farmers to temporarily halt threshing activities for a couple of days and resume them once the skies clear. He anticipates a 3-4 degree rise in temperatures in the coming days as clouds dissipate and sunlight increases.
