A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is set to make landfall along the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast by the night of September 23. This weather system is predicted to usher in heavy to very heavy rainfall across several Indian states, continuing through September 29.
States like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana are anticipated to experience significant rainfall, with potential for extremely heavy downpours in northern coastal Andhra Pradesh and southern interior Odisha on September 24. The rain is expected to spread across central and eastern India, affecting Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha from September 24 to September 29.
Eastern India, including Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, will see widespread rainfall between September 24 and 26, while Bihar is forecast to experience similar conditions from September 24 to 27. The weather system's influence will also reach northwest India, with Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jammu, and Kashmir expecting rainfall from September 24 to 29.
Southern peninsular India, including Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, will also receive widespread rainfall from September 24 to 26. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has officially withdrawn from most of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. As of September 22, cumulative rainfall this season is 15% below the normal average.
