India braces for nationwide rain, thunderstorms

India is facing a day of significant weather activity on August 6, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rain and thunderstorms. Several regions across the country are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in Gangetic West Bengal, Kerala & Mahe, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, and Uttarakhand.
Beyond substantial rainfall, the IMD has issued alerts for thunderstorms coupled with lightning and gusty winds in numerous states. These conditions are anticipated to bring wind speeds of 40-50 kmph in some southern coastal areas and 30-40 kmph in several central and eastern states. The forecast also includes warnings for thunderstorms with lightning in northeastern states and Rajasthan.
Marine and coastal areas are also under advisory, with squally winds expected in parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has warned of winds reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, along specific coastlines and sea areas, impacting maritime activities.
