The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued critical weather alerts across India for Sunday, August 2. Orange alerts, warning of very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are in effect for parts of Karnataka, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, and Kerala.
A yellow alert has been forecast for several other regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu & Kashmir. These areas are expected to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
The current weather system is influenced by a well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan, which is anticipated to weaken but continue its impact over the next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is specifically predicted for isolated places in coastal Karnataka, Kerala, south interior Karnataka, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Further predictions include heavy rainfall over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected in various parts of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and other regions, with varying wind speeds.
Squally weather conditions with strong winds are anticipated along and off the coasts of Somalia, Oman, and Gujarat. Similar conditions are expected along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep, and the Cape Comorin area. The Gulf of Mannar and the South Sri Lanka coast may also experience squally weather.
