India Braces for Deluge: Floods Warned in East, Rains Lash Himalayas

Northwest India is anticipated to experience widespread rainfall in the coming days due to strengthening weather systems. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy to very heavy rain across the Western Himalayan region and plains.
A low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy showers, to Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on August 13.
Further forecasts indicate significant rainfall for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand from August 13-18. Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab will see increased rainfall on August 14-15, while East Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan are also expected to receive widespread rain.
Central India, specifically Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha, will likely receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between August 13-18. Eastern regions, including Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, along with Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, are also predicted to have widespread rainfall during this period.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph are possible over Gangetic West Bengal on August 13-14. Odisha may also face isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of waterlogging and flash floods in low-lying areas.
