Hurricane Season Explodes: 9 Storms Tracked!

Hurricane season has reached its peak with an active display of storms across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. As of Monday, August 24, National Hurricane Center meteorologists were monitoring nine distinct storm systems. Seven of these were located in the Pacific, while two were developing in the Atlantic.

Hawaii is experiencing significant weather impacts from Tropical Depression Moke, which weakened from a tropical storm. Although Moke passed roughly 300 miles south of the islands, heavy rain and tropical storm-force gusts up to 55 mph were forecast. This follows the recent recovery from Hurricane Lala, and the additional rainfall could cause dangerous flooding and mudslides, particularly in already affected areas.

In the Eastern Pacific, Tropical Storm Iselle formed off the Mexican coast and is expected to briefly reach hurricane strength before dissipating. Meanwhile, the Atlantic is showing signs of potential development, with an area of showers and thunderstorms near Bermuda and a tropical wave off the coast of Africa being closely watched by forecasters for possible storm formation in the coming days.
