Himachal Braces for Heat Wave, Then Storms
27 May
Summary
- Heat wave to hit Himachal Pradesh for two days.
- Western disturbance to bring rain and snowfall.
- Advisories issued for residents and farmers.

Himachal Pradesh is currently facing a dual weather alert, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting severe heat wave conditions for May 26 and 27. During this period, temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius across most of the state. Isolated districts such as Una, Bilaspur, and Shimla are under a Yellow alert for heat wave conditions.
However, a significant shift is anticipated from May 28 onwards. A fresh Western Disturbance is predicted to affect northwest India, bringing light to moderate rain and snowfall to many parts of Himachal Pradesh on May 28 and 29. Thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds up to 50 kmph are also expected. High-altitude areas like Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti could experience stronger winds.
Following this wet spell, a considerable drop in temperatures is expected, with maximums potentially falling by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius and minimums by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. This will bring relief from the current heat. Advisories have been issued for public safety and agricultural protection, warning of potential crop damage and advising residents to stay hydrated and seek shelter during adverse weather.
