The National Weather Service has issued a warning for Hawaii, urging residents and visitors to prepare for a Kona storm system. This storm is anticipated to bring several days of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the islands, with worsening conditions expected on Oahu from Tuesday, March 10, 2026, through the end of the week.
In response to the impending severe weather, various closures and preparations are underway. On Oahu, the Lei Draping Ceremony at Thomas Square Park has been postponed. Permitted vehicle access to Kāʻena Point, Mokulēʻia Section, will close on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 1 a.m.
Several state parks and trails on Kauai are already closed. Polihale State Park and the Kalalau Trail have been inaccessible since Monday, March 9, 2026. Kōkeʻe State Park camping is suspended after Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11 a.m., and Hā'ena State Park is closed indefinitely.
TRICARE beneficiaries in Hawaii may now receive emergency prescription refills through March 20, 2026. City emergency officials are advising residents to clear gutters and storm drains, secure outdoor belongings, and avoid flooded streets. Citizens are encouraged to sign up for emergency notifications through HNL Alert.
