Guntur Officials Tackle Encroachments, Prepare for Monsoon Floods

On October 7th, 2025, the Guntur Municipal Commissioner, Puli Srinivasulu, has taken decisive action to address the city's ongoing drainage and flooding problems. During an inspection on Monday, he directed town planning officials to immediately remove all road and drain encroachments that are obstructing the free flow of rainwater and sewage.

The Commissioner expressed anger after finding repeated encroachments over drains, including one near Hindu Pharmacy College on Amaravati Road, where illegal structures had been re-erected even after being removed three times previously. He has ordered a departmental inquiry and promised strict action against the negligent staff responsible.

Srinivasulu also criticized the town planning and sanitation officials for their lack of action despite repeated public complaints of water stagnation and flooding in several wards. In response, he has issued a rain alert, advising residents in low-lying areas to stay vigilant as the heavy rains continue.

Engineering staff have been directed to keep motors ready for pumping out stagnant water and ensure smooth drainage near culverts, especially at the three bridges, Kankaragunta RUB, Ring Road, and Chuttugunta Centre. Officials have been instructed to remain on the ground until the rainfall subsides and to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply.
