Gulf Storm Threatens Texas & Louisiana Coast

A tropical storm warning has been issued for stretches of the Louisiana and Texas coastlines as a potential tropical cyclone developed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday. This marks the fifth system of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, provisionally named Potential Tropical Cyclone Five.

Forecasters anticipate significant rainfall, ranging from 3 to 6 inches across coastal Texas and some inland areas, with isolated amounts up to 9 inches possible. Southwestern Louisiana could receive 2 to 3 inches of rain. These accumulations raise concerns for flash flooding, particularly in urban and low-lying regions.

Additionally, a storm surge of up to 3 feet is a possibility along coastal areas. The warning encompasses portions of southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana, stretching from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line in Louisiana. Tropical storm conditions are expected within 24 to 36 hours, with the storm track indicating landfall by Tuesday.
