Gujarat Braces for Heavy Rains as Authorities Activate Rescue Plans

As of August 20, 2025, parts of Gujarat have been experiencing torrential showers, and the situation is expected to worsen in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), coastal districts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat, such as Navsari, Valsad, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Junagadh, and Gir Somnath, are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains over the next two days.
In response to the impending weather conditions, the authorities have taken proactive measures. They have deployed 12 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 20 teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in different districts to handle any emergency situations that may arise. Additionally, out of Gujarat's 206 reservoirs, 61 are currently on high alert, 27 are on alert, and 21 are on warning level.
The state has already received 70% of its annual average rainfall, and isolated parts of Gir Somnath district have recorded extremely heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Sutrapada taluka receiving 287 mm and Patan-Veraval recording 144 mm of precipitation. Heavy rainfall has also been reported in other districts, including Banaskantha, Valsad, and Junagadh, as well as the adjoining Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
