Georgia Braces for Flooding as Tropical Storm Remnants Arrive
17 Jun
Summary
- Flood watch in effect for north and central Georgia from Thursday morning.
- 2 to 4 inches of rain expected, with isolated areas possibly over 5 inches.
- Remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur bringing heavy rain and flash flood threat.

A Flood Watch has been issued for a significant portion of north and central Georgia, effective from Thursday morning until late Friday night. This alert is due to the anticipated heavy rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur.
Forecasters predict widespread rainfall totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches across the affected areas. Certain isolated locations could experience more than 5 inches of rain. This excessive precipitation raises concerns about potential flooding in low-lying zones, alongside creeks and streams, and areas with inadequate drainage systems.
While Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, formed near the Texas Gulf Coast, it is not expected to bring tropical-storm-force winds directly to Georgia. However, its moisture will spread across the state later this week, increasing rain chances starting Wednesday.
Beyond the risk of flash flooding, meteorologists also foresee a low-end severe weather threat on Thursday. This includes the possibility of isolated strong storms and brief tornadoes. Drier weather is forecast to return over the weekend.
