As of October 7th, 2025, millions of Americans are bracing for an early winter chill, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing frost and freeze warnings across parts of 11 states. The affected regions span a wide swath of the country, including Montana, western Wyoming, southeastern Idaho, northwestern South Dakota, and much of North Dakota. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s Fahrenheit in areas like the Bitterroot Valley and along the Clark Fork River in Missoula, Montana. In Wyoming, the town of Dubois could see temperatures as low as 25 degrees, with isolated readings as low as 22 in the Upper Wind River Basin.
The cold snap is also expected to grip parts of Oregon, Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Colorado, with subfreezing temperatures ranging from 25 to 36 degrees Fahrenheit. Frost advisories have also been issued for areas in California, Washington, and Minnesota.
