Flash Flood Warning Issued for Niagara, Orleans

As of Sunday, August 3, 2026, at 5:47 p.m., a flash flood warning was issued for Niagara and Orleans counties, remaining in effect until 9:45 p.m. Heavy rainfall, measuring between 1.5 and 2.5 inches, has already fallen, with an additional inch possible. This has led to ongoing flash flooding impacting small creeks, urban areas, and low-lying regions.

The National Weather Service has provided critical safety advice, urging residents to "turn around, don't drown" when encountering flooded roads. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. A flash flood is a sudden, intense flood that can develop rapidly, even in areas not directly experiencing rain.

During heavy rainfall, prioritizing safety is paramount. This includes moving to higher ground, adhering to evacuation orders, and avoiding submerged areas due to electrical hazards.
