25 Oct
Summary
- First winter storm of the season forecast for six states.
- Several inches of heavy snow expected from Sunday night.
- Travelers advised to prepare vehicles and drive cautiously.
A significant winter storm is anticipated to bring the season's first snowfall to six states spanning the High Plains and Rockies. Beginning Sunday night and continuing through Monday night, areas including Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Montana are expected to experience precipitation changing to heavier snow.
The storm system, which previously brought rain to Southern California, will combine with cold air to produce the initial snowfall. Higher elevations in Colorado and Wyoming may see a mix of rain and wet snow, while heavier accumulations are forecast for eastern Montana and western Minnesota. The Black Hills region of South Dakota could receive several inches, with slushy accumulations possible in Rapid City.
