28 Feb
Summary
- Greenland's Summit Camp recorded -65.3°C in late February 2026.
- Braeburn, Yukon, hit -55.7°C, Canada's coldest since 1999.
- Antarctica holds the world record at -89.2°C from 1983.

The northern hemisphere endured a severe winter, marked by profoundly low temperatures across various regions. Greenland experienced some of the most extreme cold, with Summit Camp registering a frigid -65.3°C on the morning of February 25, 2026. This location, situated at a high elevation, saw wind chills plummet even further. Canada also faced significant cold snaps. The community of Braeburn, Yukon, recorded -55.7°C on December 23rd of the previous year, marking the nation's coldest reading since 1999. Russia also reported intense cold, with Delyankir reaching -58.8°C in late December.
These intense temperatures offer a stark reminder of the power of Arctic weather systems. While these readings were extreme for the northern hemisphere, they are surpassed by the all-time global record. Antarctica's Vostok Station recorded a staggering -89.2°C on July 21, 1983, a benchmark for extreme cold that has yet to be broken.
