Maritime Ski Hills Open Early Thanks to Cold Snap

Maritime ski resorts are experiencing an extended season due to favorable weather conditions, with cooler temperatures and significant snowfall allowing for early openings. Crabbe Mountain, located near Fredericton, surprised visitors with a bonus opening day on Sunday, ahead of its official Friday launch. This early start was made possible by generous early winter weather, providing welcome extra days for skiers and snowboarders.

Mont Farlagne in Edmundston also benefited greatly from the early winter, launching its season with seven open slopes on Friday, a significant advantage not seen in nearly two decades. This early opening is particularly beneficial after a mechanical issue caused closures last year. Ski Martock, south of Windsor, Nova Scotia, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with an extended operational period, thanks to the excellent snow conditions.

Owners and general managers expressed excitement about the early start, noting the positive impact on business and member satisfaction. The excellent snow quality, a mix of natural and well-prepared man-made snow, ensures a great experience for visitors. This strong start to the season bodes well for ski resorts across the Maritimes as they look forward to a successful winter.
