Downpours and Flooding Risks Loom Over South Florida
9 Oct
Summary
- Broward and Miami-Dade under flash flood risk
- Coastal flood advisory due to higher-than-normal king tides
- Fall front to bring drier, more comfortable weather this weekend

According to the latest weather forecast, South Florida is bracing for a rainy few days, with chances of scattered to widespread showers and storms increasing on Thursday and continuing through Friday. The Weather Prediction Center has placed Broward and Miami-Dade counties under a level 1 risk of flash flooding, as heavy downpours and localized flooding are possible.
In addition to the rain, a coastal flood advisory remains in effect through this evening due to higher-than-normal king tides. This means saltwater flooding could occur along vulnerable, low-lying coastal areas during high tide times. The next high tides are expected at 11:14 a.m. and 11:24 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, 10:58 a.m. and 11:05 p.m. in Miami, and 12:39 p.m. and 11:58 p.m. in Key West.
However, the weather pattern is set to change this weekend as a fall front moves in, ushering in drier air and lower rain chances. While some showers may still be possible early on Saturday, the rest of the weekend is expected to bring more sunshine and comfortable conditions, with lower humidity and highs in the mid-80s. This transition marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the dry season, which officially starts on October 15.
