Dhanbad Potters Battle Wet Weather to Fulfill Diwali Demand

In the lead-up to Diwali, the traditional potter community in Dhanbad's Manaitand's Duhatand Kumharpatti is facing a challenging situation due to the persistent rainfall. Every household in the area is typically busy shaping earthen lamps and clay toys for the festive season, but the constant moisture has slowed down their work.

Mithun Kumhar, a resident of Duhatand, explains that the persistent rainfall is delaying their production and affecting their preparations for Diwali. Despite their best efforts, most of the finished products remain wet and undried, making it difficult for the potters to meet the high demand.

Adding to their woes, the cost of clay has also increased this year, raising the overall production expenses for the potters. Another potter, Rajendra Pandit, urges the district administration to provide a designated space for the potters to sell their products during the festive season. He explains that due to the lack of proper vending zones, they are often forced to sell their products at throwaway prices to wholesale traders, denying them a fair return for their hard work.

As the Diwali celebrations approach, the potters in Dhanbad are working tirelessly to overcome the challenges posed by the wet weather and secure a better future for their traditional craft.
