New Delhi experienced its hottest March day to date on Wednesday, coinciding with Holi celebrations, as the maximum temperature reached 33.2 degrees Celsius. This reading, recorded at the Safdarjung observatory, was 1.7 degrees above the usual for this time of year.
Other weather stations across the city also reported above-normal temperatures. For instance, Lodhi Road registered a high of 32.8 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures also saw a rise, with most stations recording readings above 14 degrees Celsius.
The city's air quality index was in the 'moderate' category at 161. However, data indicated that four stations were in the 'poor' category and one in the 'very poor' category during the evening hours. The air quality is expected to remain in the 'moderate' zone for the next few days.
