Delhi Braces for Pre-Monsoon Rain: Yellow Alert Issued
14 Mar
Summary
- Delhi's minimum temperature dropped, with a yellow alert for Sunday's rain.
- First pre-monsoon rain expected about 10 days earlier than usual.
- Air quality remains in the 'moderate' category with slight improvement.

The national capital, New Delhi, observed a slight decrease in its minimum temperature on Saturday. Concurrently, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Sunday, forecasting light rain coupled with gusty winds and thunderstorms.
This anticipated rainfall is expected to be the season's first pre-monsoon shower, arriving about ten days earlier than usual. Experts attribute this early arrival to a western disturbance influencing weather patterns over the Himalayas and cyclonic activity in Pakistan. The city's minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 18.1 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal but lower than the previous day.
Further temperature declines are predicted over the next few days. Minimum temperatures are forecast to settle around 14-16 degrees Celsius by Monday, while maximum temperatures are expected to be between 31-33 degrees Celsius. Despite these weather shifts, Delhi's air quality improved slightly on Saturday, remaining in the 'moderate' category with an Air Quality Index of 153.
