Delhi Heat Eases: Rain and Thunderstorms Arrive
23 Jun
Summary
- Delhi expects rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on June 22.
- Southwest monsoon likely to reach Delhi in early July.
- CM directs officials to prepare for waterlogging during monsoon.

Delhi's weather has brought relief from intense heat, with forecasts predicting rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds for June 22. The India Meteorological Department anticipates partly cloudy skies and light rainfall, with maximum temperatures hovering between 37°C and 39°C. These current weather conditions are driven by western disturbances and are not linked to the southwest monsoon.
The arrival of the southwest monsoon in Delhi is expected to be delayed this year, with experts predicting an onset in early July instead of the usual June 27. This delay is due to a slow advancement of the monsoon system across the country, compounded by an absence of the usual "push and pull" weather system over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
In light of the upcoming monsoon season, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to ensure preparedness for waterlogging issues. Authorities have been instructed to appoint nodal officers for waterlogging hotspots and maintain teams on alert to manage any emergencies, emphasizing accountability for any lapses.
