Delhi Shivers as Temperatures Plummet to Decade-Low

In a significant weather event for the national capital, Delhi experienced its coldest temperatures in a decade on November 16, 2025. The minimum temperature plummeted to 9.7°C, which was 3.8°C below the seasonal average. This marked the first time this winter that the mercury dipped below the 10°C mark.
The drop in temperature is particularly noteworthy as it is the earliest occurrence of sub-10°C readings since November 2020, when the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.7°C. Last year, the city saw temperatures fall below 10°C on November 29.
While the cold wave has set in, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet issued any formal warnings. However, forecasts suggest the minimum temperature is expected to further drop to 8-10°C by Monday, November 18. The maximum temperature is also predicted to remain around 24-26°C over the next few days.
Alongside the plummeting temperatures, Delhi's air quality has also deteriorated, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching the "very poor" category on November 16. Experts warn that the air quality is likely to worsen, potentially entering the "severe" category by Monday.
