Parts of Delhi are currently under a red alert due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, as issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This alert, active for three hours from 9.16 am on Thursday, affects numerous districts including East Delhi and South Delhi. Other areas remain under an orange alert, anticipating moderate rain with accompanying thunderstorms and lightning.
The city has already experienced significant rainfall, with Safdarjung recording 30.5 mm as of Thursday morning. This accounts for about 59% of the long-term average rainfall for August. Lodhi Road registered the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours at 43.8 mm.
This heavy rainfall has led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across Delhi. Maximum temperatures at Safdarjung and Palam stations settled below normal levels. The IMD forecasts generally cloudy skies with intermittent rain for the next six days, also issuing a yellow alert for Friday, predicting moderate rain in some areas.
