Delhi Drenched: Yellow Alert & Winter Chill Descend
21 Mar
Summary
- Delhi experienced rain and storms, leading to a yellow alert and a winter-like chill.
- Temperatures dropped significantly due to rainfall and a cyclonic formation.
- AQI improved with rainfall, and further moderate conditions are predicted.

Delhi experienced a significant weather shift with widespread rainfall and storms, leading to a yellow alert and a notable decrease in temperature, reminiscent of winter conditions. Experts attribute this improvement in air quality and the temperature drop to the recent precipitation and a cyclonic formation moving across the northern plains.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a rise in maximum temperatures, expected to be in the 27-29°C range, while the minimum temperature dipped to between 13°C and 15°C. Over the next five days, maximum temperatures are predicted to increase incrementally, accompanied by cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms on March 23.
Various parts of Delhi recorded rainfall, with Mayur Vihar receiving the highest at 2.5mm in a 24-hour period. The current low maximum temperature recorded was the second-lowest of the year. The weather system is expected to move east, leading to a gradual temperature increase, though snowfall in the Himalayas may retain a wind chill factor for a few days.
