Delhi Monsoon Surpasses Average Amidst El Nino Fears

The southwest monsoon has performed strongly over Delhi-NCR, alleviating concerns that El Nino might significantly reduce rainfall in northern India this season. Delhi's primary weather station recorded 99.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning.

This deluge has pushed the city's seasonal rainfall to 645.1 mm, surpassing the normal average of 640.4 mm for the June-September monsoon period with over a month left. Other observatories across Delhi have also reported healthy totals.

Satellite imagery indicates extensive cloud development across central, eastern, and northern India, showing continued active monsoon conditions. While a weakening trend is predicted later in the week for some areas, there are still approximately 36 days remaining in the official monsoon season.

Over the next 48 hours, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are forecast to receive widespread moderate to heavy rainfall. Isolated moderate showers are also anticipated in several other eastern and central Indian states, while light showers are possible in southern and northeastern regions.
