The national capital, Delhi, is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures fluctuating between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a formal alert, advising residents to take necessary precautions. While a brief spell of very light rain is anticipated on April 28 and 29, the IMD forecasts that this will not bring significant relief from the heat.
Maximum temperatures across much of India are expected to remain high, ranging from 40 to 46 degrees Celsius. Exceptions include the western Himalayan region, northeast Bihar, and northeast India, where temperatures are predicted to stay below 36 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also issued health advisories, recommending adequate water intake, protective clothing, and avoidance of direct sun exposure, particularly for vulnerable populations.
