Delhi Heatwave Breaks: Rains on the Horizon!
11 Jun
Summary
- Pre-monsoon activity is expected to strengthen significantly from June 11.
- Delhi is forecasted to receive light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
- Temperatures are predicted to drop below 40 degrees Celsius soon.

Delhi is anticipated to receive much-needed relief from its current heatwave as pre-monsoon weather patterns intensify from June 11, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, forecasting light rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph during the night.
This development follows days of sweltering heat, with maximum temperatures surpassing 43 degrees Celsius in several parts of the capital on June 10, 2026. Weather experts attribute the impending change to a cyclonic circulation over Pakistan. They predict that rain activity will increase significantly, leading to a drop in temperatures below the 40-degree Celsius mark in the next few days. This intensification of pre-monsoon activity is a common phenomenon, where rising daytime temperatures can foster stronger storm systems, bringing widespread showers.
Despite the dry conditions during the day on Wednesday, atmospheric conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for thunderstorm development. The city's air quality remained in the moderate category with an AQI of 169.
