Earlier this week, parts of Delhi were treated to a spell of moderate to heavy rainfall, providing much-needed respite from the scorching heat. The showers painted a grey hue over the city's skyline, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The wet weather is expected to persist throughout the week, with Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Intermittent showers are forecast to continue until July 27, with the sky remaining mostly overcast.
The ongoing wet spell is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan and an active monsoon trough stretching from Jammu to the Bay of Bengal. In light of the inclement weather conditions, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab, warning of heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Responding to the forecast, Delhi airport authorities have issued a passenger advisory, stating that flight operations are currently normal but advising travelers to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates. The low-cost carrier SpiceJet has also alerted its customers to potential weather-related delays.
