Delhi Commuters Grapple with Traffic Chaos Amid Rains and Festive Rush
30 Sep
Summary
- Severe traffic jams reported near Jamia Millia Islamia and on NH-48
- Yamuna water quality improves as flood waters flush out pollutants
- Delhi's air quality in 'moderate' category on September 30

As the city of Delhi grappled with the double challenge of heavy rains and the festive rush on September 30, 2025, commuters faced severe traffic snarls while heading to their destinations. Commuters took to social media to report traffic jams near Tikona Park close to Jamia Millia Islamia and a 25-minute pile-up at the flyover near Radisson Hotel on NH-48 while traveling from Delhi to Gurugram.
The downpour, however, brought some relief after a spell of sultry weather. Parts of south Delhi, including the busy Mahatma Gandhi Road, NH-48, and Captain Gaur Marg from Lajpat Nagar, also witnessed severe congestion, with one user describing the traffic as "bumper-to-bumper" on Mathura Road, Old Rohtak Road, parts of ITO, and the stretch from Mahatma Gandhi Road to GT Karnal Road.
Amidst the traffic chaos, there was a silver lining as the Yamuna's water quality improved, with flood waters flushing out pollutants. The city's air quality index was recorded in the 'moderate' category on the morning of September 30, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
