Delhi's air quality persisted in the 'very poor' range on Thursday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 313. The minimum temperature dipped to 6.3°C, a degree below normal, coinciding with the anticipation of a western disturbance.
Light rain and winds of 30-40 km per hour are expected on Friday, offering a potential respite from the smog. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for these conditions. This weather pattern is also predicted to keep temperatures moderate, with the minimum hovering between 11-13°C.
The city endured its most polluted January in nearly three years, experiencing AQI levels of 400 or higher for three consecutive days between January 17 and 19. The peak AQI during the recent spell reached 440 on January 18, nearing the 460 recorded in January 2021.
