Delhi Air Quality Hits 4-Year January Cleanest
26 Jan
Summary
- Delhi's air quality reached its cleanest January levels in four years.
- AQI improved to 'moderate' from 'poor' due to strong northwesterly winds.
- Air quality is predicted to dip to 'poor' again early next week.

Delhi recorded its cleanest January air in four years on Sunday, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 153, categorized as 'moderate.' This significant improvement is attributed to strong northwesterly winds blowing from the snow-capped Himalayas.
The Air Quality Early Warning System forecasts a temporary dip to 'poor' AQI on Monday and Tuesday, with levels expected to fluctuate between 'moderate' and 'poor' through early February. A yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday, anticipating light rain and winds up to 40 km/hr.
This respite follows a period of severe pollution last week, with AQI exceeding 400 for three consecutive days. Meteorological conditions are typically expected to favor pollutant dispersion from February onwards.
Minimum temperatures remained low, hovering around 6.6°C on Sunday and expected to drop further before rising by midweek. Maximum temperatures were slightly below normal for this time of year.
