By Saturday afternoon, wind chills are projected to reach near minus 20 degrees, creating hazardous conditions. An extreme cold warning is in effect for northwestern Minnesota, forecasting wind chills as low as minus 40, where frostbite can occur rapidly on exposed skin.
If temperatures remain below zero throughout Saturday, it will mark the coldest day in the metro area since February 17th. The frigid conditions are expected to continue into Sunday morning, with wind chills potentially dropping to minus 30 degrees in some areas, increasing the risk of frostbite to 10 to 15 minutes. Temperatures will begin to rise late Sunday as winds shift.
