As of August 18, 2025, the coastal regions of Karnataka are on high alert due to heavy monsoon rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the coastal belt, prompting the authorities to take immediate action.
In Dakshina Kannada district, the Deputy Commissioner H. V. Darshan has declared a holiday for all government, private, and government-aided private schools and anganwadis. This decision was made to ensure the safety of students and staff in the face of the impending severe weather conditions.
Similarly, in Belagavi district, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges in several talukas, including Belagavi, Kittur, Bailhongal, Savadatti, and Khanapur. This measure is aimed at protecting the well-being of students and teachers during the heavy rainfall.
