Coastal Hazards Loom as Melissa Churns in Caribbean, Offshore Storm Looms
26 Oct
Summary
- Hurricane Melissa batters Caribbean, heads for Bahamas
- Offshore storm to bring coastal flooding, rough surf to East Coast
- Potent storm to impact central, eastern U.S. with rain, wind, potential snow

As of October 26th, 2025, AccuWeather meteorologists are closely monitoring multiple storm systems impacting the United States. Hurricane Melissa, which has been causing catastrophic flooding and destructive winds in the Caribbean, is expected to move through the Bahamas by midweek before tracking into the western Atlantic.
Concurrently, a storm that brought severe weather to the Plains and Gulf Coast is now moving across the Southeast and will soon track offshore. The combination of Melissa and this offshore storm will lead to another round of rough surf, coastal flooding, and beach erosion along the East Coast through much of the week.
Residents along the coast are advised to prepare for these hazardous conditions, and small craft operators are urged to use caution or consider altering their plans due to the hazardous seas. Additionally, a potent storm is expected to strengthen as it moves through the central and eastern U.S. mid- to late week, bringing periods of rain, gusty winds, and the potential for snow in the higher elevations of the Appalachian Mountains.
