Chilly Winds and Frost Grip Region as Temperatures Swing Wildly
5 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Patchy frost and temperatures in 30s on Wednesday morning
- Highs in upper 60s to lower 70s on Wednesday afternoon
- Gusty winds up to 40 mph expected overnight Wednesday into Thursday

On the morning of November 5th, 2025, many areas outside the Beltway experienced patchy frost as temperatures dipped into the lower to middle 30s. However, the day was set to see a significant temperature swing, with highs reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s by the afternoon.
The big story for the day was the increasing winds out of the south-southwest, which were expected to reach 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. This gusty weather helped push temperatures higher, but also signaled the arrival of a strong cold front that would cross the region Wednesday night.
As the cold front moved through around midnight, winds were forecast to quickly ramp up, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible for a few hours. This would usher in the next blast of chilly air, with wind-chills on Thursday morning expected to be in the mid to upper 30s despite plenty of sunshine. Temperatures on Thursday were only expected to reach the upper 50s, though winds would be slightly less intense than the previous day.
The volatile weather pattern was set to continue through the weekend, with another cold front bringing showers on Friday night and the potential for the season's first lake effect snow flurries in parts of the region by early next week. However, temperatures were expected to rebound into the 50s and 60s by the middle of next week, providing a brief respite from the winter-like conditions.
