Chicago Roars: Tornado Warning Amidst Severe Storms

A Tornado Warning was issued for portions of Cook, DuPage, and Will Counties on Monday afternoon, impacting Chicago suburbs like Wheaton, Orland Park, and Lombard until 1:15 p.m. Concurrently, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for the broader Chicago area until 1 p.m., predicting wind gusts as high as 70 mph.

Adding to the severe weather, a Flash Flood Warning was active in Chicago, Cicero, and Arlington Heights until 4 p.m. Federal Aviation Administration data indicated ground stops at O'Hare and Midway airports until 1:15 p.m., with O'Hare reporting 21 flight cancellations in the preceding 24 hours.

Temperatures on Monday neared 90 degrees with a peak heat index around 105 degrees. While smoke remained in the upper atmosphere, it posed no significant respiratory concern. Storms were expected to clear overnight, leading to mostly cloudy skies and lows in the low to mid-70s.

Looking ahead, Tuesday is forecast to bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs in the low 80s, and potentially several degrees cooler for communities near Lake Michigan. The rest of the week is expected to see near-normal temperatures in the low to mid-80s for late July, with another possibility of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.
