Bikaner Desert Turns White: Hailstorm Stuns India

Rajasthan's Bikaner, typically arid, was recently transformed by an unexpected hailstorm, causing parts of the desert to appear white, akin to snowfall. A video from Arjunsar village, shared online, depicted fields covered in a thick layer of ice. This dramatic weather event followed a western disturbance impacting Rajasthan, bringing hailstorms, gusty winds, and rain.

This occurrence contrasts significantly with the region's typical climate; last year, Bikaner experienced peak summer heat near 40°C, while this year's temperatures dropped to around 30°C amid the hailstorms. The local meteorological department has issued a yellow warning, indicating potential for more rain and hailstorms around April 7 and 8. Other parts of the state, including Jaipur and Jodhpur, are also anticipating thunderstorms and strong winds.

While the surreal visuals have captured public attention, concerns have been raised about potential crop damage due to the hailstorms. Calls for crop insurance support are being made by local communities affected by the unexpected weather phenomenon.
